Library Administrator/Director of Operations

Aida Elena Mejía

Hello! My name is Aida Elena Mejía. I adopted Mayagüez almost nine years ago when I moved here during Christmas 2008, after the birth of my daughter Violeta. Becoming a fulltime mom brought some challenges, but I managed to graduate with a master’s degree in Educational Leadership while working from home for a number of ventures including consulting businesses, freelance writers and artists, and non-profit organizations. Having collaborated with the Miranda Foundation, I have firsthand knowledge about the incredible work these organizations do for our communities and the country. I love living in Mayagüez, and now that I’ve been presented with this amazing opportunity to serve my community as the Director of Operations at the Mayagüez Children’s Library, I am fully committed to continue its legacy of excellence. It is a privilege and a mission that I treasure.

Director of Programs and Community Outreach

Francis Pérez

Hello! My name is Francis Pérez. I was born in Mayagüez and have lived here all my life. I have a bachelor’s degree in geology from the University of Puerto Rico in Mayagüez. As an undergrad I was president of the Student Geological Society. Following graduation I completed the courses leading to teacher certification in environmental, terrestrial and general sciences at Interamerican University in San German. Since 2011, I have worked full-time as an analyst of geophysical data at the Seismic Network of Puerto Rico located at the UPR in Mayaguez where I have acquired a great deal of experience working with and for communities and recognizing the needs they face at this time. In 2016, I completed a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Teaching with a specialty in Environmental Education at Concordia University in Portland, Oregon. In 2017 I taught environmental sciences, physics and health at Colegio San Augustin in Cabo Rojo.

I remember the Mayagüez Children’s Library with great affection since, when I was in middle school at Colegio Episcopal, I used to come every afternoon to do assignments and projects. I am proud to be part of this organization that for over 25 years has been providing service to the Mayagüez community and to all of Puerto Rico. I hope to continue contributing positively to our library, sharing great ideas for the benefit, not only of the library, but also for the community to which we offer services.
